My husband and I struggle with breakfast. We are always running late in the morning, not even because we can't get out of bed in time, but there just always seems to be things that need to get done in the morning before work that take precedence over a good breakfast. We run, walk the dog, do the dishes, pick up the house, and okay.. occasionally... I am not the best at getting up right when my alarm goes off.
Due to this, I tend to have a granola bar as I am running out the door, but that just doesn't cut it. I am always starving and I know I should be eating something better for the most important meal of the day.
In an effort to help with this I made pre-made smoothie mixes that we can grab from the freezer, put in 1 cup of either milk or orange juice, a container of yogurt and blend it up. I can put it in a cup and still take it with me if I am running late.
If you struggle with mornings as well, here is how you can make these. You can do this with any fruit of course but we chose pineapple, strawberries and blueberries.
Here is what you will need:
- A whole bunch of strawberries - I got one big package from Costco
- A whole bunch of blueberries - I got one big package from Costco
- 3 pineapples
- About 16 quart or sandwich size Ziploc bags
Start with a whole bunch of each fruit; I got mine at Costco and got a great deal. Cut it all up in to pieces. I cut the strawberries, regardless of the size, by cutting the top off and then slicing them in half. I cut the pineapples in to squares and you won't need to cut the blueberries.
Bag them all up in to Ziploc bags. I put about two serving spoonfuls of each item in each bag but just go by what it looks like. Fill a quart size bag about 1/3 full. You can look at the below pictures to see how much I put in each bag.
Put these in your freezer and you are done! When you are ready to make a smoothie for breakfast put the frozen fruit in your blender along with 1 cup of either milk or orange juice, and one container of yogurt and mix away!
