I created an advent calendar to eventually use when I have a family. This is slightly different than a standard advent calendar because in each envelope there is an activity we can do together as a family instead of a piece of chocolate or something similar.
Here is what the finished product looks like.
To create this advent calendar I used the following:
- Frame: 20” tall x 18” wide
- Envelopes: 3 ½” tall x 2 ¼” wide
- Red spray paint
- Various scrapbooking paper and embellishments, punches and number stamps
I started by cutting the flaps off 26 envelopes and decorating each of them with numbers 25 to 1. These are the envelopes I used.
I spray painted the frame red, it was originally white. I didn't have to spraypaint the back of the frame because it was already black. I removed the glass completely.
I put scrapbook paper on one extra envelope, envelope #26, so that I could put it on the back of the frame and keep the papers with the activities on them that go in each envelope (one per day) when they were not being used.
Here are the activities I put together to put in each envelope for our family's advent calendar. Some are specific to where we live so feel free to make them work for you!
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas with your family!
